We had a decent turnout today, for our first meeting of the year 2006. Jason, our faculty sponsor, was iSighted in and we tried out a bunch of app demos. Before I forget, make sure you subscribe to our iCal at http://ntaug.org/cal/North%20Texas%20Apple%20User%20Group.ics by url. Open iCal, go to Calendar->Subscribe, and paste in the url to make sure you get the latest updates. If you just download the calendar, you’ll get a snapshot as it exists right now.
Here are the things we discussed today:
Photos are also up at ntaug.org/photos/v/20060126-meeting/ - if you have any photos you’d like to add, shoot me an email at tim@timhatch.com and we’ll get you set up with an account for Gallery.
Our next meeting will be Thursday, February 9.

We’ve got a meeting scheduled for this Thursday (i.e. tomorrow), January 26th.
You are invited to NTAUG’s first meeting of the Spring 2006 semester!
Time and Place
The meeting will begin at 5:30pm and last no later than 7:30pm. The meeting is held in Terrill Hall room 121. If you are not familiar with the building, the following link will help you locate our meeting: http://www.unt.edu/pais/map/campusmap.htm#th. Enter through the South entrance. If you cannot attend the whole meeting, we understand.
What’s Happening
The first meeting will provide a general overview of what NTAUG actually does, and plans to do…in theory at least. We will introduce how to stay informed with the happenings of the group and how to get involved. We’ll also discuss our new version of our meetings, using Apple iTunes’ vCasts!
This is the perfect time to get connected with other Apple users around campus. The people you meet will likely turn out to be who you turn to when you have that last minute question or want to know how to use iLife, Final Cut, your iPod, etc.. to full capacity. Come solo, bring a friend (or pass this along to one), but most importantly, join us and be part of another great NTAUG year!
We look forward to seeing you there!

The kickoff meeting started off with a couple demos of new Apple software, pending Vonn’s arrival, who was stuck in traffic. First, Front Row is pretty cool though it ran slowly on all the laptops we tried it on (probably because it’s designed for a G5, go figure). Photo Booth gets a very similar review, it’s pretty cool but hogs CPU to do its effects on the video.
Vonn broght one of the new (5G?) iPods to pass around, and we’re all quite impressed. We had trouble getting video-out working but that was due to not having it enabled in the options (a task which requires many clicks).
Pictures are up in the photos section.
Our next regular meeting will be after the holidays, with lots of new goings-on!

You are invited to NTAUG’s next meeting! We are off to a late start, but don’t let that stop you from attending. Following in the tradition of the previous two years, there will be food and drinks provided. If you are familiar with the group, you know that means either Jimmy John’s, The Tomato, or Subway. Also a tradition, we have posters and iTunes gift certificates to giveaway. Who knows, we may even have a Garageband contest.
The meeting will begin at 5:30pm and last no later than 7:30pm. The meeting is held in Terrill Hall room 121. The first meeting will provide a general overview of what NTAUG actually does, and plans to do…in theory at least. We will introduce how to stay informed with the happenings of the group and how to get involved. You will be able to get your hands on the new 60gb iPod with video as well as the iPod nano. There will be a demonstration of Front Row running on a Powerbook. Front Row is Apple’s new application that comes bundled with the iMac G5. It will turn the computuer into the center piece of your living room. Finally we will talk about the second annual scavenger hunt.

PS: Please reply via email – stormy@unt.edu – if you will be joining us so we can plan accordingly for food. Thank you.
